COhatch to open The Madery, a socially-minded makers and market space on April 19

New experiential marketplace offers exquisitely crafted, locally produced products and services from social enterprises.

WORTHINGTON, OHIO, April 17 – COhatch, a new kind of shared work, social, and family space built on community, is opening its first Madery – Makers and Market on April 19 at its Library location in the heart of downtown Worthington.

Aimed at providing social enterprises (organizations with a mission for good) with a bricks-and-mortar presence in an experiential retail setting, The Madery will offer consumers a place to see goods produced and to buy artisan gifts such as candles, luxury handbags, coffee and organic meals, attend hands-on workshops or even get a haircut, all while supporting people in need.

“For the first time, we are offering consumers a retail experience that is underpinned by social artisans and entrepreneurs that advances our mission of giving back to the community,” said Matt Davis, co-founder, COhatch. “Nothing quite exemplifies this like The Madery, where we provide a supportive environment for social enterprises to grow and help one another. While each maker has a unique vision and charter, the majority provide aid to and for women.”

Davis sees social enterprises as the right way to run a business. “I think social enterprises are going to become one of the more popular ways of running a successful operation. More consumers are going to want to do business with enterprises that have a mission for good,” he added.

Six businesses will be a part of The Madery, including:

Eleventh Candle Co. – Offers candles for global sale from a collection of natural scents to help redeem, restore, empower, equip and employ those vulnerable to human trafficking, abuse, exploitation and addiction. The collection features 11 signature scents and can be purchased online or at The Madery.

Florin Coffee – Ethically sourced coffee from around the world to deliver the perfect cup of coffee. The micro-coffee roaster plans to offer workshops and provide demonstrations of coffee beans being roasted. Coffee is available online via subscription or for pick up at The Madery.

Girl Set Free – This non-profit works with artisan communities locally and globally to help reach, rescue and restore women exploited by human trafficking through the production and sale of luxury Italian leather goods and other textiles. Collection 03 will be unveiled June 1 on its website and at The Madery.

Inside Out Creatives – Helps incarcerated woman get in touch with their creative side through art classes within the prison and outside. Proceeds from jewelry, vases and other collectibles go to help women succeed once released. Polymer clay art classes for adults will also be offered at The Madery starting May 3.

PORTTION – Offers globally-inspired, locally-sourced organic meals for optimal health and wellness and will soon launch 38-calorie truffles through its Sweet Cheeks brand. Fully prepared meals can be picked up at The Madery or delivered weekly to the home via online ordering and daily to businesses through its corporate catering program.

Red Bristle – Hand “crafted” artisan haircuts for men and women with an emphasis on developing hair stylists to have a successful career through empowerment and training as well as providing scholarships and employment for those in need. In addition, Red Bristle will offer ethically sourced hair products for sale at The Madery.

According to Davis, the Worthington Madery is the first of this novel concept. “Our plan is to have other social enterprise incubators in yet to be announced locations. This is our prototype,” he added.

In addition to producing and selling exquisitely crafted products, The Madery will offer a lineup of workshops and classes throughout the year. Activities will be posted to the COhatch website along with specific details.

The Madery will host a grand opening celebration from 4 to 8 pm ET on Thursday, April 19. The public is invited to tour the new space, meet The Madery owners, see product demonstrations and shop for gifts, jewelry and other collectibles. Complimentary PORTTION food and Florin coffee samples will be offered.

The Madery will be open to the public seven days a week. It is accessible through The Madery doors located at 752 Hight Street in Worthington. Each business will keep its own hours and can be found at URL.
